DYNAMIG survey of academics/researchers based in in Europe and Africa (ACD)

We invite you to participate in a research study conducted by a team of researchers associated with the DYNAMIG project, and led by researchers at the European University Institute (EUI) in Italy. Funded by the European Union, the DYNAMIG project includes 8 research institutions in Europe and Africa. The purpose of the study is to examine how academics and researchers from different disciplines, epistemic communities, and geographic regions think about the reasons why individuals decide to migrate from Africa to Europe. The survey is aimed at researchers in Europe or Africa who analyse international migration (any aspect of it) as part of their research. The survey is part of a larger project that also studies the perceptions of policy actors and individuals’ migration decision-making processes in practice. One of the goals of the larger research project is to explore and compare how researchers’ understandings of the drivers of migration compare to the perceptions of policy actors and decision-making of potential migrants.

If you agree to participate, we would like you to complete a short survey about your own views on these issues. Your response to this survey, or any individual question on the survey, is completely voluntary. Your responses will be anonymous – you will not be individually identified, and your responses will be used for statistical purposes only. The survey will take up to 15 minutes. If you do not wish to participate in this study or would like to end your participation in the study, you can withdraw at any time by closing your browser. We will not collect your name or any identifying information about you. It will not be possible to link you to your responses on the survey. Some survey questions may ask you about ‘special categories’ of personal data (such as gender or age). If you do not wish to answer these questions, you can choose the option ‘Prefer not to answer’.

Your confidentiality as a participant in this study will remain secure.  This study adheres to the LimeSurvey policies for participant confidentiality, which can be found here.

The data transferred from LimeSurvey to the responsible data controller at the European University Institute (Dr Carlotta Minnella) will be in fully anonymized format. A number of safeguards (including measures such as password-protected storage on secure servers) will be implemented to protect the data. Project researchers will then analyze the survey data using a range of statistical methods.  In all cases, usage of records and data for statistical analysis will be subject to the EUI Data Protection Policy, which can be found here. EUI tools will be used for data transfers within the EU.

For any specific questions that you may have about data processing for the purpose of the statistical analysis and/or about the research study itself, please contact the Data Controller, Dr Carlotta Minnella, at carlotta.minnella@eui.eu.

You are guaranteed that this research project has been reviewed and approved by the EUI Ethics Committee. For questions concerning ethics or data protection linked to the research project, the EUI Ethics Committee may be contacted through ethics@eui.eu.
